Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction is a procedure that is performed by using body tissue, after a mastectomy, to return the breast to its shape, size and consistency. This helps to improve the appearance, psychological consequences and self-esteem of patients. An areola and a nipple can also be created in the reconstructed breast if the patient so wishes.

There are several techniques for breast reconstruction and the time in which they are performed. It can be done immediately after the mastectomy or some time after. A prior evaluation is needed to determine the most appropriate option, always taking into account your expectations, health, age and physical characteristics.

It is important to make it clear that a breast reconstruction can only achieve a similar appearance, but it will never be the same as a breast. Despite this, the vast majority of patients end up very satisfied with the result.
