Actinic keratosis

Actinic keratoses (AKs) are precancerous skin lesions that affect 50% of fair-skinned elderly. They are caused by:

  • Accumulated solar exposure
  • Work outdoors
  • Depression

In general, they appear as reddish lesions that are covered with crusts or scratchy scales to the touch, located in areas exposed to light: face, scalp, back of hands and décolleté.
